Indoor Recreational Soccer Season - Players in the U9 (born in 2016) - U18 (Born in 2007) age groups looking to register for indoor soccer will do so via the Central Registration Portal.

After registration, the teams will be created. Teams are typically a combination of players from several clubs playing out of a host club that MAY NOT be the community center for your catchment. You could be placed on a team hosted by any of the clubs in the district.

A team representative will contact you approximately two weeks before the start of the season, which runs from November 1st until March 15. There will be a break from December 22nd until January 2nd, and the weekend of February 12th to 16th will be the optional Golden Boy Tournament. If you haven’t been contacted by a team representative by October 20th, don't hesitate to get in touch with Winnipeg Phoenix FC by emailing jennifer@phoenixsoccer.ca to find out where you are playing.

Winnipeg Phoenix FC follows and maintains the Canada Soccer club licensing requirements under the Standards of Quality Soccer (SQS) and includes area community clubs wishing to offer youth soccer programs in the Northeast area of the City of Winnipeg, to participate under the Phoenix SQS license. Our goal is to create a consistent program across the entire district, including fees, and improve the overall quality of the soccer programs.

Season Overview

The schedule is usually available 1-2 weeks before the start of the season. Teams will typically play one match per week (Approximately 16-18 total games), either played on Thursday (either gender), Saturday (females only) or Sunday (males only).

NOTE: WYSA expects that the U9 to U12 Boys divisions will have high registration numbers. Facility time on Sundays will not be enough to accommodate a Sundays-only schedule. Therefore, matches will be scheduled on Saturdays as required to ensure that teams are scheduled their full allotment of matches.

The venues of play will be the WSF Soccer North (Leila), WSF Soccer South (U of M), and the University of Winnipeg RecPlex.

Fees for this season will be as follows:

U9-U12:  $420.00 plus a MSA fee of $39.05
U13-U18:  $440.00 plus a MSA fee of $39.05

Teams will also typically practice one evening per week at a school gym in the area (if available and is assigned by Phoenix to the Coach). The night is subject to gym availability and could be any night of the week and may not be every week as the gym may not be available certain weeks due to school functions.

The format for indoor soccer is:

  • U9-U12 Recreational Division teams will use not more than 7 players per team on the field; one shall be the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions can be made.
  • U13-U18 Recreational Division teams will use not more than 6 players per team on the field; one shall be the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions can be made.
  • Length of matches, 2 x 30-minute halves.

Please remember soccer is a TEAM sport. Each player is a valuable member and contributes to the team and to the development and enjoyment of each other player on the team. By signing up for soccer you have made a commitment to be part of a team. Attending practices and games for the team should be a priority.

Coaches Needed

The Recreational Soccer Program relies on volunteer coaches to provide the opportunity for your child to participate in the program. Without these coaches there is no program. Not only will you be contributing to your child's development, but you will also be supporting the community too. Be part of this rewarding experience! If you are willing to volunteer to coach please complete the appropriate section on your child's registration with the necessary information or contact Winnipeg Phoenix FC by e-mailing jennifer@phoenixsoccer.ca

In order to ensure the safety of all participants and comply with Canada Soccer's SQS program coaches must be willing to complete the following, for which all fees will be reimbursed to the coach upon successful completion:

  • A Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector. Provided by WPS or RCMP only (completed within the past 36 months)
  • A Child Abuse Registry Check (completed within the past 36 months)
  • An up-to-date Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders. (expires every 5 years)
  • The appropriate coaching certification is required for the age/stage they are coaching. MSA requires the "Learn to Train" level for U9-U12 coaches and/or "Soccer for Life" level for he U13-U18. More information can be found via the link. Manitoba Soccer Coaching
  • If you coach a team with youth that includes girls or gender-diverse people, you must complete the Respect Group Keeping Girls in Sport Program

Note: Criminal Record Checks and Child Abuse Registry Checks must, at minimum, be in a submitted state prior to the start of the season. All coaching certification requirements except the on field portion must be completed prior to the season.
